Question by Chey: How can I get a job on the set of the Harry Potter 7 films and where is it being filmed?
I really want a job on the set of one of the two Harry Potter 7 films that they are making. I will be happy to do anything – carry cups of coffee and stuff like that – I just want to be on the set. also, where are they filming them? which part of England? also, what company is filming it? Finally, how do you get a job on a film, set, just being an assistant or anything without any training or experiance?

Best answer:

Answer by eLCie
One or two of the Harry Potter films were filmed in Scotland or England, I think. Exactly where, I don’t know. If you want a job, you will probably have to ask Warner Bros. They have all the rights to the movies.

will running on my treadmill at an incline of 10 for a mile improve my endurance quickly?

i used to have a great amount of endurance in the beginning of november but i stopped running due to injuries. will it take a long time to get it back?

Best answer:

Answer by Erik C
Improving speed or endurance? Each takes a different type of training, though both need you to run.

To increase speed you need to do short bursts of speed, then rest and repeat the exercise for a training session.
You can do this by say running 400m fast (depending on how far you want to increase speed over), rest and repeat. Do Fartlek training sessions – jog a lap and then sprint a lap, or jog down the road and between lamp posts sprint, then jog between the next 2. Find a hill, jog up it easily then run down fast, and repeat (this gets your legs moving fast).

To increase endurance you need to run further. This all depends on how far you want to run for. If you are doing short distnances (up to 5km races) then run a bit further, perhaps half again, of the distance to build up the endurance for the race. If its a longer distance then you can run less than the race distance. Whatever, make sure you jog or run for at least 30 mins at a stretch. You could find a hill to run up, jog to it and then run up it hard, jog down and repeat, this builds leg muscles.

These are OK for running outside.

If you are on a treadmill you can do simular.

For speed start off at a comfortable pace and every 45 seconds increase it by 0.1mph untill you have to stop, or just set the treadmill off at a quick pace and run – the treadmill will force you to go fast (or you fall off!)

For endurance, set it to a pace and just run. Or you can set it to an easy pace, and every 30 seconds increase the incline by 0.5 degrees, and run for as long as you can. Set the angle back to 0, run to recover and repeat! hope it helps

Question by Mr. Knowledgeable VI: Do you agree with the Detroit City Council on demolition of the Michigan Central Railroad Depot?
As I read the Detroit News website, I saw that the city was to demolish the Michigan Central Railroad Depot on Michigan Avenue as soon as possible. The train depot has been abandoned and vacant for over 21 years and although there have been plans for the depot in the past, every plans falls through.

Do you agree with the City of Detroit on demolition of the Michigan Central Depot or do you believe it should be saved and preserved for future generations. You can read the article at http://www.detnews.com/article/20090407/METRO/904070421/Detroit+council+votes+to+demolish+Michigan+Central+Depot++charge+owner.

I agree with the council that the station needs to be demolished. The building has been an eyesore for 21 years and the station will never be a viable place for business again. If the station was in other major cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or Atlanta and it stood vacant, it would have been demolished a long time ago.
I also found an article on the Detroit Free Press that could help you give an answer;

http://freep.com/article/20090407/NEWS01/90407070/Council++Raze+Mich.+Central+Station+at+owner+s+expense

Before I chose a Best Answer, I did enjoy reading all the responses on if you agreed with the Detroit City Council on demolition of the Michigan Central Railroad Depot.

Best answer:

Answer by Guillermo
wtf are you serious, tear that old decrepit heap of trash down. Seriously that place is like the homeless ritz-carlton.It’s finally about time, the last trains pulled out of there 21 years ago, and since nothing has been made with the building. Detroit could use the space, I suggest tear it down and build another train station, which is something we don’t necessarily have.

Question by : If you can’t find the owner of an abanonded train track near your area, where could you go to own it?
I live in Canada and my dad and me go for walks to look for treasure (not real treasure) and behind this hockey arena are rail road tracks.

But the thing is that they are abanonded because 1:they’re rusted, 2:some of the material are gone (they fell off I didn’t do a thing) or misplacedor, 3:they are plants growing in between the tracks and 4:
I’ve never seen a train go on those tracks or I would of known that there has been an accident.

I have been looking on the internet about if you could take abanonded train tracks to the junk yard to make some money because they are extremly heavy (don’t ask me how I am to take the tracks) but the thing I could find on the internet is that you could have permission from the owner of that land. It’s behind many buildings but none of them could own part of a rail road and who ever owns it, dosen’t take care of it because there is a ton of junk.

The only owner I can think of is VIA rails (which is the train sytem in Canada) but I think That I could make a deal with them somehow because I don’t see them taking it.

What do you think I could do

Best answer:

Answer by Hulitoons
I am unsure of Canadian law, but perhaps by giving you how such is handled in the United States might help aim you in the right direction:

Here we contact the County where the land is located to access the Title of the property. The Title of the particular land gives the names of the owners. From there you can ask the owners if you can remove items from the property. I don’t think picking up small ‘treasures’ would be considered a problem, but picking up large sections of track might be considered theft.

Question by Stephen H: Strange Vehicle on Railroad Tracks?
When I was driving from San Diego to Visalia the other day, as I was going up highway 5, I noticed that there was a pickup truck parked on the railroad tracks. At first, I thought a car had illegally driven on the train tracks but then as I got closer, I noticed that the truck had a special wheel to attach to the tracks and it had a Union Pacific logo on the truck. This made think that this might have been some kind of a track work or maintenance vehicle of some sort.

I was curious what these vehicles are used for.

Best answer:

Question by : Transport – Harlow, Essex to Preston, Lancashire.?
I’m planning on going to Preston in July for a couple of days and wanted to know the cost of travel and the best method of getting there. I would rather go by train, mainly because it is faster and I get some leg room, but if a bus works out much cheaper than I would consider that too.

I’m planning on leaving on the 26th and returning on the 29th or the 30th.

I do not have anything like a student railway card or any method of getting discounts. All help is appreciated!

Best answer:

Answer by paof2
Cheapest way is probably megabus, but that means getting to Victoria coach station and probably something like a six or seven hour coach journey.
Alternatively, pop down to your nearest train station and discuss it with the staff there. They can advise you about the costs and times, it might be worth a few pounds extra to do the journey in half the time.

Question by : Is railroad work steady with UPRR right now?
My husband may be offered a job in Texas with UP train crew soon and we’re both excited and scared at the same time. He has a tough federal job right now with little to no room for advancement so the railroad started looking very attractive. I’m still in college for another year and we depend on his income alone for stability/benefits.

After reading horror stories about furloughs, we’re beginning to think now may not be the time to take such a huge risk. On the other hand, we’d hate to miss a good opportunity. Is it true that if you don’t complain and willing to work anywhere/anytime that it’s likely you won’t be furloughed? Any info from a UP worker would help so much.

Thanks.

PS. How long after hired do benefits kick in?
What is the salary during training?

Best answer:

Answer by Andy
My answer won’t be much comfort to you i’m afraid. You just never know how furloughs are going to shake out. When our economy tanked the furloughs were horrible. They are all back to work now and they are hiring. But you just never know what will happen.I’m not going to tell you it will be ok because i don’t know. That being said as of right now we are working our butts off.My son just hired out here in Texas at the same place i work out of.He is in training right now.His pay for the first 3 weeks of classroom was 80 a day. Then he did 4 weeks of yard training at 160 a day(i think it was 160 maybe 140 i’m at work so i can’t ask him). Then back to classroom for 2 more weeks at 160 a day.Now he is starting student trips on the road.We get paid trip rates for road jobs. His trip rate should be about 220 each way. He’ll do those for a month. They work them pretty steady. He gets 10 hours off then goes on the first train that shows up.Then at home i think he’ll get 24 hours off between trips.Your health benefits start right away. There is a 90 day probation period when you hire out.Til your over that 90 days the railroad can release you at any time. After 90 days the union accepts you as a member and you have some protection. It’s very hard to get permanently fired after your in the union. You really have to screw up bad! It’s a good job but i can’t tell you what your husband should do.It’s a risk for sure.It was good for my kid because he’s young and single.

At last a Railway station was built and Trains started to come and leave. Wow! A great news … but all this had to wait for 61 years! What do you think of this? Feel free …
Tripura had Rail line only for 75 Kms before this. However, it has been extended now!
Railways in Tripura is a new thing Guys!!!

Best answer:

Answer by nerd04
A rail engine of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Saturday touched Agartala Station amid tight security fulfilling a long-cherished demand of people living in landlocked Tripura.

The rail engine that started its maiden journey on Saturday took almost 24 hours to reach Agartala passing through the newly constructed 68 km rail-link.

With this, Agartala became the second State capital of North East to have rail connectivity after Assam’s Guwahati. Earlier, the rail engine was taken from Manu to Ambassa in Dhalai district successfully early this year.

Its a historic event and I would like to add one thing that at last people get what they had waited for so many years.
So cheer up buddy and celebrate.

Question by cschaffner53: looking for address of person who’s entire front yard is a train village in st.louis, north county area?
I am looking for the address or street of the person who has his entire front yard set up with model train displays that we go to visit every year. He had his house and train display mentioned in the newspaper last year. I think it is somewhere around the St. Ann area in St. Louis. Can anyone help me here? We use to visit it and the kids think it is wonderful.
Thanks.
Okay, I have found that this place is off of St. Charles Rock Road in Overland, off of McKibbon…..8851 Windom Avenue….It is awesome if anyone would be interested in seeing it!!!!

Best answer:

Answer by Heidi
I’m not for sure if this is the place you are looking for, but I just saw this on the news.
There’s a home in south St. Louis county near Grant’s Farm. The owners have set up their whole yard and even decorations in their windows. A dollar can be donated that will go to St. Patrick’s charity or you can view their display for free, your choice. Santa is supposed to be there Sat. for the kids.
Here’s the website with more information.

Hope this is the place you are talking about.~~~~

Okay somebody gave me a thumbs down so I guess my answer is wrong. I did find this place that the owners turned their basement into a whole train village. It’s is not the one you are talking about obviouly but I thought if you couldn’t find the one you are looking for, then you might like something like this.

Sorry I don’t know/can’t find the place you are talking about.

Question by collnto: Can ryanair cancel your flight and leave you to make your own way home?
We arrived at Carcasonne airport on tues 20th for our flight back to liverpool, we went through passport control and were informed an hour later that our flight had been cancelled. We were told to collect our luggage and re-book or get a refund. That was it, there was no offer of another flight or transport to another airport, basically we had to make our own way home, by train and ferry costing each couple approx 400 pounds. Our original flight was meant to be at 10.15am we arrived home at 7.30am Wed 21st. Can they do this?

Best answer:

Answer by manjunath p
If the flight itself has been cancelled, due to some technical problems, what the Carrier can do ? If the problem is a minor one, they would have postponed the departure. As the flight itself has been cancelled the problem should be a serious one. Instead of putting passenger at risk, they have announced it well in time, so that people can make other alternate arrangement. They must have refunded your money, must have apologised for the inconvenience caused. That is the best they could do. It is not intentional. Actually you should feel happy that they announced with in one hour. Some time last month, i was forced to spend about 20 hours inside the Craft, with out water, food, over flowing toilet. But none from Carrier cared, it was a low cost Airline.
